­Terrorism threats and tension between countries create a huge demand for applications of homeland security. To protect national borders and critical national assets such as electricity stations, oil rigs, gas and water pipes, a variety of technological means are typically deployed. These include video surveillance cameras, sensors and radars, as well as manned or unmanned border patrol units.

Border patrol units are used as a first response to any security event. That is why it is crucial to provide the patrol units with real-time information. To that end, a communication system capable of transmitting live surveillance video, data and voice via a broadband connection is crucial for effective operations. In this application note, the broadband mobility communication system that enables sharing video, data and voice among patrol vehicles in the field and the Command Center is described.
